Oncology Massage

Benefits of taking this class: Therapists shall be able to understand cancer, the type of cancer, location(s) of the cancer and how massage can be beneficial vs. harmful to the person with cancer. Knowledge of the benefits of massage indicated for a person with cancer. As therapists' integrate oncology massage into their practice, they will gain an understanding of the goals of a therapy for a person with cancer undergoing treatment, contraindications that could be a potential risk and importance of a specific health history form for cancer. Accommodations and important communication with the individual coming in for oncology massage if they have any special requirements for their therapy. Review terminology and types of cancer. The therapist shall refine skills with hands-on practice for manual lymph drainage massage, an oncology massage chair treatment routine for hands and feet, Swedish massage techniques with adjustments as required for a session. Develop skills for end of life hospice setting such as comfort measures for pain, discomfort, decrease edema, anxiety, muscle tension and bring peace to acceptance of end of life.
The cost of this workshop is $300. which includes a class manual on techniques. Each student will give and receive as students practice on one another with this 2-day hands-on course. You will also receive a certificate upon completion of this class. NCBTMB Approved Continuing Education Hours = 16.

Required Supplies:

• Massage Table linens, twin size fitted and flat sheet.
• A blanket or bath sheet if you tend to get cold.
• We will need a massage table per 2 students. Please confirm if you can bring one
• Pen or pencil
• Massage lotion or oil
• Optional: pillow or bolster
• Bringing your own water or hydrating beverage is highly recommended. Please be sure you have a lid on it to avoid spills
